CART Begins 2012 with New Faces and New Resolve

CART has undergone some significant changes in the last few months of 2011 and will start the new year with a new President, and a new Attorney representing us on the Bridges Project issues.

Ron Schneider, who had been CART's president for several years, resigned in November, and David Coyte was elected to replace him at the December board meeting.  Ron is retired from Kentucky government where he worked in the Division of Air Quality and for the Transportation Cabinet.

He oversaw a review of CART's bylaws and pushed for a more disciplined CART presence.  Ron still serves as the Kentucky Representative to the National Association of Rail Passengers and we look forward to working with him in that capacity.

Attorney Dean H. Sutton has been CART's pro-bono attorney since 2005.  He gave valuable assistence in developing the Request for A Supplemental EIS for the Bridges Project that was submitted to the US DOT in 2006.  He also served as our attorney in filing to be a party to the current Bridges litigation filed by River Fields.  Dean kept us in the game to this point, and we are very grateful.  His successor in our legal efforts is Clarence “Bud” Hixson, an attorney with a long standing interest and participation in environmental issues.  We are excited to be working with Bud on this effort.

Early this year CART will be losing one of our most important longtime members, Secretary Karen Kartholl.  Karen has been the single most consistent force on CART's board for the last 15 years.  She has done all the thankless jobs, kept track of all the details, and kept us all honest as we have navigated  the issues that inevitably afflict an all volunteer group of passionate people.  Karen came to CART with a degree in non-profit management, and has managed without profit for many years.  She will be greatly missed.  We keep hoping her husband will find a job back in Louisville.  Thank you Karen and good travels!

We also have a new board member, Steven Greseth.  Steven is an engineer with a wide range of experience and an informed interest in transportation.  We look forward to his input as we move forward.

Improving the sustainability of our transportation infrastructure while seeking to meet our mobility needs will be key components in addressing the environmental and energy issues that confront us.  2012 will be a critical year, and we hope CART can gain your support.

Sincerely,

David Coyte

President
