Calling All Walkers & Rollers,
The Healthy Hometown Pedestrian Summit & Community Walkability Plan
project is in full swing. The series of four Community Workshops is
taking place this week. These are your best opportunity to provide
direct input to the Community Walkability Plan – Louisville's roadmap
for becoming a healthier and more active city.
If you want to have a voice in creating this vision, which will shape
our city for years to come, all you have to do is attend one of these
events, speak your mind, and hear what others have to say. The
Workshop schedule is:
Safe Routes to Schools & Parks – Wed. April 16, 1:00-5:00PM,
Presbyterian Community Center, 731 S. Hancock St.
Disabilities & Older Adults – Thurs. April 17, 1:30-3:30PM (optional
walk @ 1:00), Crescent Hill Ministries, 150 S. State St.
Building Walkable Communities (Development & Infrastructure Issues,
etc.) – Thurs. April 17, 6:30-8:30PM, Fern Creek High School, 9115
Fern Creek Rd.
Recreational Walking & Running – Sat. April 19, 9:00-11:00AM
(optional walk @ 8:30), Shivley Community Center, 1901 Park Rd.
All workshops are open to the public. Each workshop will focus on a
different topic, but you will have an opportunity to provide input on
any topic at any workshop. If you can't make the one that's "for
you," just come to another one and you can still have your voice
heard.
Walking expert and highly entertaining speaker Mark Fenton will be
hosting the workshops on Thursday the 17th, Disabilities & Older
Adults and Building Walkable Communities. If you have never heard
Mark speak, you will definitely not want to miss these sessions.
The Healthy Hometown Pedestrian Summit itself is just around the
corner on May 10, and the Kick-Off Reception is May 9! Due to the
level of interest and limited space, pre-registration for the Summit
is required. Visit www.louisvillepedsummit.com to register for your
spot at the Summit (attendance is free) while there is still time!
Also while you're at the website, please take a minute to fill out our
short Walking Survey if you have not done so already, and many thanks
to those of you who have.
Opportunities like this to help shape the future of our city don't
come around very often, so please: Come to the workshops, complete the
survey, and pre-register for the Pedestrian Summit! It's up to you to
make Louisville a walkable community.
Sincerely,
-The Ped Summit Team
