John Owen & I visited City councils in Hardin and Meade counties yesterday, asking for $100 donations towards the P&L inspection train. We were well received, and we did some good education on defining commuter rail for these people.
Kudos for the councils of Radcliff, Mulldraugh, and West Point for investing in the future.
And what is commuter rail, and what's the difference between it and Light Rail?
Light Rail runs on lighter track, typically with overhead electrical wires. Each car is about the size of a city bus, and you can string a couple cars together to reduce labor costs.
Commuter Rail runs on freight rail track, usually powered by diesel engines. Each car seats on the order of 100 people. All commuter rail I've ridden has had two levels, a ground floor (accessible) level, and a 2nd story for people who can go up stairs. Commuter rail rides very smootly, no being slung around by sudden starts and stops.

Pizza vs. public transit
If everyone who reads this site sent the price of today's snack or coffee to the inspection train, that thermometer would rise. The next pizza you order for your children will be at Morris Foreman in a few days, but the same money invested in this project might give them a cleaner world.
Also if we can get it
Also if we can get it together and get out actual fund raising letters.
Still, over halfway and not a single dead tree yet, not bad.
