If you attended the CART Annual meeting on Wednesday, July 23, you heard the discussion of an exciting proposal to demonstrate that commuter rail is a real possibility in Louisville.
CART is partnering with KIRA, the Kentucky and Indiana Rail Advocates, to sponsor an “inspection train” down Dixie Highway toward Fort Knox, using the Paducah & Louisville Railway. It will be a trip for various city officials to see the railway and imagine what the corridor could become. A similar inspection train led to the creation of the Music City Star on the Nashville & Eastern railroad.
The plan is to take a load of Louisville officials to Elizabethtown on the train, then on the return train, transport Hardin County officials to Louisville. The second leg of the trip for both groups will be by charter bus through Miller Transportation.
The cost of this project is a little over $5,000. CART got the ball rolling by pledging $1,000 from our general fund. Although funds are also sought from Metro Council and other sources, CART is asking its members and friends for contributions to show how much grassroots support there is for commuter rail. There are few actions we could take that are more dramatic or concrete!
It was decided by the members at the annual meeting to hold all checks to CART designated for the “Inspection Train”. The checks will not go into the CART general fund and will be returned if the plan is not realized.

Good work, CART!
This "inspection train" is a terrific idea! I appreciate CART's willingness to get this train rolling. I intend to send in a donation for this project. If you are reading this, please do the same. This would be great for our community.
