Since the early 2000s there has been no transit service linking Kentucky from East to West. It is not possible, for example, to go from Louisville to Frankfort.
If Miller Trailways has anything to say about it, that is going to change. However, they need your letters of support to make it happen!
Greyhound abandoned the last East-West service because it wasn't profitable. Congress decided that it wasn't a good idea to orphan all those small communities without any inter city transit, so they created 5311-f funds to subsidize rural intercity transit. Kentucky gets $1.8 million worth of funds, and currently doesn't subsidize any inter-city bus transit of note. Instead, that money is marked as unspent and flows into a larger pot where it is used to subsidize rural on-demand transit services - basically taxis, running with an end-user fare of about $1 per mile.
Miller is applying to run a route through these towns: Evansville IN, Henderson KY, Owensboro, Tell City, Brandenburg, Fort Knox, Louisville, Shelbyville, Frankfort, Versailles, Midway, Lexington, Winchester, Mt Sterling, Morehead, Ashland KY, and Huntington WV (map). Plans for servicing other parts of the state are also on the drawing board. Service could be up to 5 runs a day on the heavily demanded Louisville-Lexington corridor. Fares would be about $0.30 / mile, so for example Louisville to Frankfort would be $16. All this is working from my memory, so don't treat it as official.
KYTC is undergoing the deliberative process to determine if there is a demand for this service. Please write a letter of support to Vickie Bourne <vickie.bourne@ky.gov> and Eric Perez <eric.perez@ky.gov>. Clicking this link will probably work for you. Letters should really be sent by the 28th to capture the pre-application, so there is no time to lose!

The Rural Transit providers can provide the service much cheaper
Kentucky hold your ground. The rural transit providers can provide the service for less. Determine your gaps and have them coordinate together to fill the gaps use remaining amount to lessen the burden of the state.
